Theta is a decentralized video delivery network with own blockchain. It was created for video streaming. The Theta network consists of 2 parts:
- The first is video delivery.
- The second part is the Theta blockchain. It incentivizes users to connect to the delivery network.
Typically, a CDN (Content Delivery Network) consists of huge decentralized data centers scattered around the world. Therefore, they are not geographically close enough to users. This causes poor streaming quality. That's why Theta is building a P2P network for users to share their extra bandwidth. As a result, this global network can replace or complement CDN infrastructure. Customers provide their devices as cache hosting (video storage) and send video streams to local viewers around the world. The more cache points Theta has, the better the streaming quality. That's why cache points are rewarded with Theta coins.
The THETA Project
The Theta Network team includes specialists with extensive experience in creating video content services (about 30 years), blockchain developers and strategic and technological advancement. There are 14 people at the helm. General Manager - Mitch Liu (he is the creator of Sliver.tv), Co-Founder - Jieyi Long (he created several patented technologies such as VR video), Ryan Nichols (Director of Product), Reese Virk (Head of Corporate Development).< /p>
