STEPN is presented as a Web3 application , containing GameFi and SocialFi features. This gives users the opportunity to obtain specialized gear—sneakers—to perform various activities, such as walking or running, in exchange for native GST tokens. These tokens can properly be used as payment for upgrading or releasing a new pair of sneakers. Participants in the game can make a choice: rent or exchange their sneakers. All earnings are stored in the Wallet app. It also allows people to exchange coins. STEPN also uses GMT as its governance token. Users can only earn GMT when they reach level 30 for sneakers. The total emission of tokens is promised to be halved every 3 years.

STEPN is built on the Solana blockchain. It was launched in August 2021 by Find Satoshi Lab and an Australian entrepreneur named Yawn Rong. He previously created Crypto SA, a crypto fund. Mr. Rong released STEPN with his comrade Jerry Huang, who developed the games and founded Falafel Games. By September 2021, the main crew had already been formed and “launched the car.”
