Cryptocurrency Starknet (STRK)
Starknet is a permissionless Validity-Rollup (also known as "ZK-Rollup") that supports shared computing and currently operates as an L2 network over Ethereum . The possible security of L1 Starknet is ensured through the use of the most secure and scalable cryptographic protection system - STARK.
Starknet contracts are (for the most part) written in Cairo, a Turing complete programming language designed for STARK proofs.
The Starknet token will be used to pay transaction fees, participate in the Starknet protocol, and participate in governance. The rationale for each of these utilities is presented in our decentralization proposal in the section "What will the tokens be used for?"
How Starknet is related to SHARP?
SHARP (shared proof ) is a service for calculating proofs of correct execution of Cairo programs. It can be used to confirm the correct execution of a specific Cairo program that ensures the Starknet - Starknet OS (operating system) state transitions are correct. Starknet currently uses SHARP along with many other clients to amortize evidentiary costs. In the future, Starknet's throughput may justify a dedicated level of verification.
